5 To-Do’s For Memorial Day Weekend in Lexington
By: Ashley Alt
Here are 5 to-dos Lex has in store for America’s favorite holiday weekend.
Sticking around town for Memorial Day Weekend? Good! There are oodles of things to see, do and explore. Whether you’re looking for that classic backyard BBQ feel or something a little more off-the-traditional-cuff, we’ve got options for you.
Pool Time
Nothing screams summer more than watching a kid perform his best cannonball. Kick off summer at Southland Aquatic Center’s Poolapalooza on Saturday, as the splash space is providing families with an entire day of poolside fun from noon to 4 pm including summertime music, exciting prize giveaways and family-friendly activities. Oh, and it’s free admission for everyone.
Hit a Comedy Show
Do you feel like laughing? Donnie Baker, the nationally syndicated radio program of the “The Bob and Tom Show,” headlines at Comedy Off Broadway Thursday-Sunday. Expect to hear stories about all of the characters in his life that you have come to know and love including his boss Randy, his best friend, Scotty and his ex-girlfriend, Angel.
Showtimes vary depending on the day, and tickets range from $22-$25. Head over to Comedyoffbroadway.com for the full scoop.
Rock Out
If you didn’t get enough live music action last weekend with the stock of concerts and other live music events around town, you’re in luck because there are more groovy tunes coming your way.
The Lexington rock, blues, and jam band rockers Magnolia Boulevard are releasing their debut EP this Friday night at The Burl. Join this rock n’ roll bunch for their exciting music launch. You will be pleased by performances by Joslyn & The Sweet Compression and the Zach Longoria Project.
Tickets are $12 in advance, and $15 the day of the show. Head over to Theburlky.com for more info.
Upscale Shopping
Vintage Market Days, if you aren’t familiar, is not your average flea market. Far from it. This vintage-inspired market features original art, gorgeous antiques, clothing, jewelry, unique home decor, seasonal plantings and more handmade trinquets.
This event, held at The Kentucky Horse Park Friday-Sunday, will be filled with creative vendors displaying their talented work. Click here for admission, times and other goodies this well-established pop-up has to offer.
Backyard Party
Hosted by you or your dear family and friends…a classic backyard BBQ! This is the perfect segue into summer as you eat, drink, laugh and play games with the people you love. Unwind from a jam-packed weekend and take Monday to relax in the privacy of your own (or your friends’) home. You can’t go wrong with a good old fashioned backyard get together.
Let’s not forget this prelude to the 4-day-workweek is to honor and remember U.S. soldiers who lost their lives while serving our country.
We hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend. Enjoy!
